This post is the first in a series of open source equivalents of industry standard tools used for developing websites, spreadsheets, text documents, print material, multimedia and whatever. Share the web!
OpenOffice
I’ve come across a lot of useful open source tools – some better than others- the following being one of the best.
If you’re stuck using MicroSoft Works spreadsheet and word processor
check out OpenOffice. This free software can do all the things MicroSoft Office does and possibly more.
OpenOffice Features
OpenOffice has a excel type spreadsheet, a Word type text editor, a Powerpoint type slide show builder and a couple more bits in the pack. You can open MicroSoft Word and Excel documents in it and save your own documents with Word and Excel extensions (97/2000/XP and others are available from dropdown when saving files).
OpenOffice is free, it’s professional standard and it’ll save you money if you were thinking of purchasing MicroSoft Office.
