Easy Web Site Optimisation – Tip 1
Header Tags, Bold Text and SEO
I’m instructing a client’s staff on basic SEO and find it best to explain the process as we go. This is an extract from a note I sent regarding the use of ‘H’ tags and bold, italic and underline text. HTH!
…HTML tags are important from and SEO perspective as it marks heading text out as a kind of brief summary of the content that follows it.
By using HTML header tags you are saying my page is about this, this and this. The search bots then check the following text to see how it actually relates to the heading.
That’s why we bold, italic or underline the important text in the content. It makes it stand out to search bots as important and if relevant to the subject (usually mentioned in the header tag) they will index it for related searches.
Be Careful About Underlining.
People have come to recongise underlined text as links. If they click underlined text and it’s not a link they become confused about what is and is not a link on your page.
People don’t wait around on the Internet. If they have to think question what they already know there’s a good chance they will exit the site and not return.

Another good reason to twitter is to keep an eye on what leaders in your industry are doing. You’ll get all the latest software, marketing and business tips, news and reviews by following the people who are at the top of your industry.
If you have a lot of fans (lets say your a blogging guru or similar), then you can encourage your fans to follow you on twitter. That means when you twitt your latest blog post, or affiliate programme (or whatever) your visitors will be notified almost instantly.
So, don’t be fooled, twitter may look like a light-weight web app but in reality it is one of the most powerful social media networking tools out there.

Time To Get Tough With Facebook Pests!
Everyday I’ve been getting facebook invites to this group or that or being nominated as a ‘trusted person’ or someone’s ‘top friend’. All from people I’ve never even exchanged a message or email with!
Okay, this is my own fault for ‘making friends’ with complete strangers on facebook, but we all do it, right?
Someone wants to be your friend (for whatever reason), sends a short message (if even that). You check out their profile, they don’t look too crazy and hey presto, you’re bussom buddies!
That’s fine, you add another scalp to the list of ‘friends’ and you go on with your life…
But then it begins.
An invite to a group that you wouldn’t join even under threat of violence. Then some ‘I love you friend, pass it on to ten people and make them feel warm’ type of mindless junk appears on your wall. Then the gifts start coming (facebook gifts, not like they actually put their hands in their pockets and bought something useful or anything – just a crap facebook gift).
Hey, don’t get me wrong, that’s nice coming from a facebook friend you actually exchanged corrispondence with but not from one of these “facebook is my life” pests!
PEOPLE, IT’S TIME TO GET TOUGH WITH FACEBOOK PESTS!
I started today. I routed out my most annoying, persistently pesty facebook contact and sent her to the darkest regions of ‘you’re not my friend land and you never will be you bloody pest’ hell.
Already my inbox spam is down about 20%!
Here’s An Invite For Non-Pests
If you think we might be compatable as facebook friends then send me a friend request with a message. If you have no life outside of facebook don’t bother because you have too much time on your hands and likely to be a complete pest.
